      Update Firmware for Zebra Printer

      This article covers the steps required to update your printer's firmware.

      1. Download Zebra Setup Utilities to the PC that your printer is connected to. This program communicates directly with the printer to update the firmware.
        1. You may have to accept the license agreement by pressing "ACCEPT AND BEGIN DOWNLOAD NOW"
      2. Open the downloaded application and follow the directions to install the application and drivers for your printer.
        1. Press "Next"
        2. Check the "I accept the terms of the license agreement" box, then press "Next"
        3. Press "Next"
        4. Press "Next"
        5. Press "Next"
        6. Check the "I have read the information above" box, then press "Next"
        7. Check the "Run Zebra Setup Utilities Now" box, then press "Finish"
      3. When the application opens, you should see your printer listed near the top of the window in the white area:



      4. Our next step is to download the latest Zebra Device Firmware for your printer:
      5. When the download is complete, navigate to your Downloads folder. Right click the .zip file you just downloaded, and select "Extract All..." then press "Extract".
        1. You will now see a window open showing a few files. The file with your firmware version is the file we will be using.

      7. Return to the Zebra Setup Utilities application. Make sure your printer is highlighted, and select the "Open Printer Tools" option:



      8. Select the Driver Settings tab, then select Settings on the left side, then click the [...] button under the Send file option.



      9. Navigate to the folder you extracted, select the firmware file (.zpl), and click Open.



      10. Now to start the update, all you need to do is press Send.

      Keep in mind that the update will take a few minutes and the printer will not be usable during this period, and should not be turned off or disconnected from power until the update is complete.


       
      When the printer is finished updating, it will print out several labels with the current configuration information on them. You can discard these labels and use your printer as normal.
